GJ road trip

Back from the weekend trip over to Grand Junction which was punctuated by some nice moments but was mostly a stark picture of the trials of aging. Craig's mother has declined precipitously since we saw her last summer and that was when she had a broken pelvis. Now her Parkinson's is really bad. It takes her minutes and minutes to shuffle a couple feet. She can't find words when she is trying to talk and eating even the minute amounts she manages takes a good portion of her day.

It was nice to see Ginny in her wedding dress and meet the new husband. Here is a picture of the happy couple:

Weekend getaway

Tomorrow we head over to Grand Junction. Craig's niece was married last weekend at the Logan Temple and there is a reception Saturday night for the Grand Junction people. We will head out of town around noon and spend the weekend at his parent's house. When I told my friend Eric that I was going to a mormon wedding celebration he said, "oh, you'll get to look at the wedding cake." Later in the conversation I registered the comment and asked what he meant. And he said he has been to several such dos and you get to walk by the cake but never eat it. I asked Craig if he concurred and after some thought, he agreed that, yes, the cake doesn't seem to get cut. I'll keep you all posted.

Sundance Part 2

Things improved after the grisly Russian fare. I saw six more films and all had much to recommend them. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. Really liked Twelve which Craig and I saw this evening.

Sundance 2010

Went to the first of my Sundance films last night - a documentary called Russian Lessons which started at 10:30. Weird not to be tucked into bed at that time on a school night. Craig wasn't keen so I went with Eric. We lasted two hours - not sure how much longer there was but it was absolutely harrowing. Two Russian filmmakers trying to document the crimes of Russia against Georgians. Here's to hoping that our 10:30 movie tonight is a little less grueling.
